A History Rich in Celebration
The Club Continental was built in 1923 by Caleb Johnson, heir to the Palmolive Soap Company. He chose this setting for his estate because of its natural beauty as is one of the most romantic settings in all of Northeast Florida. Overlooking the expansive St. Johns River, graced with majestic Live Oak trees, this facility offers unmatched charm and ambiance perfect for any special occasion.
In the 1920’s and 30’s the mansion, formerly known as Mira Rio, was host to the most lavish events in the area such as masquerade balls, formal dinners and dances. Pictures commemorating some of these events can be seen hanging in the Main Dining Room and hallway to the Suites Office.
The Club continues in this tradition today through private celebrations such as Weddings, Quinceañeras, and Debutante Balls, as well as elopements, showers, retirements, birthday parties, rehearsal dinners and anniversaries. This intimate resort is also the perfect setting for business meetings and small retreats.
The Club is known for gourmet food of exceptional quality and beautiful presentation. Whether you plan a plated meal, a buffet, or a hors d’oeurves reception, you can expect the freshest, highest quality seafood, meats and produce available. We at the Club Continental strive to create an experience of incomparable quality for you, your family and guests.
