If miles of broad, white sand beaches, gentle blue water, and a peaceful atmosphere sound like heaven to you, a day trip to Crescent Beach on Anastasia Island may be just what the doctor ordered.
The St. Augustine area is home to numerous popular beaches like Matanzas Inlet, Vilano Beach, St. Augustine Beach, and more. The Intracoastal Waterway divides the mainland from the barrier islands, providing miles of gorgeous, sandy coastline.
Crescent Beach, on Anastasia Island between St. Augustine Beach and Matanzas Inlet Beach, is one of the area’s most scenic and unspoiled. Named for its natural crescent moon shape, this less-crowded local favorite is perfect for eco-tourists and beachcombers.
Sun, Sand, & Surf
Crescent Beach’s hard-packed sand is excellent for beach bike rides, walks, frisbee, and volleyball. Wooden decks and walkways provide access to the beach over protected sand dunes.
The atmosphere is easygoing, perfect for hanging out and just enjoying yourself and nature. Go ahead and park that beach chair right in the surf. Ahhhhhh.
Popular activities include surfing, swimming, boogie boarding, fishing, and diving. Looking to do some boating? Public access points are along the A1A. All personal watercraft must be launched from the provided boat ramps, not the beach.
Limited and seasonal vehicle access is available for a small fee at the Crescent Beach Ramp on Cubbedge Road. Rules for driving on the beach are clearly posted and are strictly enforced.
Crescent Beach Park, located south of the 206 bridge on A1A, makes a good base camp for your adventures. It offers a boardwalk, a covered pavilion with picnic tables, restrooms, showers, and free parking. Consider packing a picnic lunch or take advantage of one of the many ocean front restaurants nearby.
Nature lovers will also want to consider a visit to Anastasia State Park, just minutes away. The park offers four miles of pristine beach, a tidal salt marsh, protected bird sanctuary, and upland hammock. It’s also exceedingly popular for canoeing, kayaking, and windsurfing.
